Last Friday Gr. 4 attended the Earth Day celebration at the Shrine.  Our thanks to Mr. DeBourge and Mr. Sims for driving.  The weather was perfect and so were the children!  Seventh  graders did a craft with them at the St. A's booth, and from there Brother Tom gave them camping tips from what to take to how to build a fire.  At the Plowsharing station we saw crafts from other countries that actually earn them money that is sent back to them to help them earn a living.  Susan Fowler's skit made us aware of how important it is to take action to help preserve nature.  At the Butterfly House  students got a chance to scrutinize their recycling skills, and the afternoon ended with up close and personal views of some rainforest animals.  A lot of singing and clapping went on in between!

This week Gr. 4 has the Wednesday Mass and all of them are involved in some way.  Your child can clue you in on what he/she is doing, either serving, reading, or carrying up the gifts.  You are welcome to come!

Ms. Kmitta wanted to remind band members that they need to attend practice at QP on Mon. 6 at 3:30-4:30.  The concert is Tues.7 at QP, and they need to be there by 6:30.

Our field trip to Grants Farm is next Thursday, May 8.  Don't forget that each student will need about $8 for lunch.  Start praying for dry weather!

Today we are going to start oral presentations on famous people from the Mountain States.  It's sure to be a Kodac moment so I have my camera ready!

We're back and ready to buckle down to the business of learning!  First though we'd like to share some of the fun and exciting ways Grade 4 spent the Easter break:

"I saw Superhero Movie...about a boy who gets bitten by a dragonfly.  He has to learn how to fly."

"We went to my aunt's house for a party and played "Guitar Hero" on her WII.

"We went to visit my grandparents in Boonville and we took a boat out on the lake."

"The Boy Scouts had a sleepover at Camp Joy.  We roasted marshmallows.  I was the best at that."

"My grandma stayed with us at Easter and we ate chili."

"I visited relatives in Indiana for five days.  We went to Mass at St. Theodore Guerin Church."

"My friend and I slept over at each other's house.  We played games, went outside, played on the computer, and played with my little sister."

"I had my good friend spend the night and then I went to her house.  The most important thing I did was go to Easter Sunday Mass."

"I went to Myrtle Beach for the week.  We went to Medieval Times for a dinner eaten only with your hands-no knife, fork, or spoon-and while we ate knights rode horses.  I also went boogie boarding and got to hold a baby shark."

"I spent the night at my friend's house.  We rode bikes, played on Playstation, and watched the movies Nancy Drew and Beethoven 4."

"I took a class in Indiana about the importance of developing problem-solving skills and working in groups."

A quick reminder--next Thursday is our visit to the student Health Fair at Memorial Hospital.

          Happy Valentine's Week !  Hearts are temporarily replacing  snowflakes

          in our classroom as we hang decorations, write penpal letters, and send

          greetings to grandparents.  Our party will be 2:15 till 3:00 on Thursday.

          Stations of the Cross are due on Friday 15. 

          Be on the lookout for Midquarter Reports this Friday also.

Bishop Braxton will be visiting our school on Thursday, Jan. 24!  The students are very excited about seeing him again.  Fourth Grade has some lovely winter pictures and prayers hanging in the hallway, as well as Social Studies posters.  You will get to see these at our Open House this Sunday after the 10:30 Mass.

The White Elephant booth is in great need of gently used toys, games, video games, VHS or DVD movies, and just about anything that another child would like to buy.  Our prices average out to about 25, 50, or 75 cents, and the bigger items $1 or more.  We will price the items, but it would be helpful if you have an expensive item that might not look expensive at first glance to let us know what it is worth.  Some of the really nice things could be used for a raffle instead.  The fourth graders will get to work behind the booth for 15-minute shifts.  So, please go through the toy bin this weekend and see what your children don't play with anymore.  The Mission Carnival on Thursday 24th is a fun time for the kids and lets us make a good contribution to worthy causes.

Everyone is having fun roller skating in PE this week!  With the weather being so cold outside, it's a great source of exercise and they all seem to love it.

Fourth Grade is thrilled to have gotten a new student today!  We hope he will love being in our class! 

We are busy trying to finish up the Social Studies projects for the Northeast.  Next week we will be starting to bring in samples of some of the state foods.  If your child hasn't gotten your signature yet, please ask!  Nothing can be scheduled until we know who is able to do it.

There is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther  King.  Have a  great weekend!

          Have you all been lighting two candles on the Advent Wreath?  We have

          been doing this every day in our classroom.  Be sure to ask your child about

          who we have discussed for the Jesse Tree.

          The Band Concert is Wednesday night at 7:00.  All of our beginning band

          students have been busy preparing for that.  They're sounding pretty good!

          We are getting ready to answer pen pal letters for the third graders at

          Queen of Peace.  We also have a big art project scheduled for Friday. 

          A Social Studies test , English test, and Vocabulary test all need to be fitted

          into the lineup as well.

          There's no such thing as a slow week in Fourth Grade!
