This might be our last "normal" week for the rest of the school year. We do have a few more Mountain State recipes to finish before starting the Western States next week, and there will be one more dulcimer class with Mrs. Freuler's guest musician on Wednesday.
Thank you to those who have returned the field trip permission slips already. May 15 will be here before we know it!
Don't forget that next Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. is the Spring Concert. The Chorus has been practicing very hard and their songs are lovely and lively! The band will also get to show what they've learned, so it should be a fun and entertaining evening.
The Fourth Grade enjoyed the Earth Day at the Shrine last Friday! We learned about the Rain Forest in Costa Rica, Indian stories, taking care of the environment, and our day ended with being able to pet some animals at the Petting Station.
We are trying to bring in as many magazines as we can for the contest, so be sure to send them in with your child! Thanks for your help if you've already done this!

Time has really been flying by fast for us since Easter! Be on the lookout for our end-of-the-year field trip form for the Mounted Police and Science Center/IMAX in this Friday's envelope. Please write on the permission slip if you will be coming along as a chaperone. You must have met the Diocesan Child Protection compliance to do this. The date is Friday, May 15, and the cost is $5.00 for the IMAX ticket.
This Wednesday the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grades will be attending the play at SWIC about Abraham Lincoln and doing the right thing. In the afternoon all students will have a bus evacuation exercise to help ensure safety in case of an accident. Weather permitting, there is an outside Mass for Earth Day. All students can wear earth day shirts.
On Friday 23 we will be going to the Shrine for an all-day outside Earth Day Celebration. Students should wear Earth Day shirts, jeans or shorts of knee-length, tennis shoes, and they need to bring a lunch and a drink. If it's as hot as is predicted, don't forget the sunscreen!

This will be a fast but busy week for us with just three days of school! Right now we are working on our penpal letters for the Queen of Peace students. With a little luck we can get some Easter greetings to them before our break.
On Tuesday we are going to learn about the Holy Land where Jesus lived and try some foods native to that region. There will also be a Social Studies test on the Middle West, and new projects for the Mountain States will be discussed.
Confessions are scheduled for Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon the Eighth Grade will present the Passion of Christ in the church. Grade 5 has a presentation about the Holy Spirit that ties in with Holy Thursday that they are going to give to the school on Tuesday morning right after the assembly. Anyone who is able to attend either of these events is more than welcome to join us! Thank you to everyone who has attended our Masses throughout the year. The students are thrilled when they see you there!
Have a peace-filled Holy Week and a very joyous Easter!

This is a big week for SMSA School! Tomorrow Bishop Braxton will be visiting our school and the individual classrooms. Then on Wednesday we will have the State and Diocesan Accreditation visit. We are all proud of our new school and feel like much has been accomplished in the months we've been together as one.
This Wednesday, April 1, is the Fourth Grade Mass. If you can join us, we'd be happy to have you attend! There is also early dismissal at 1:30.
Book orders are due this Friday, April 3.
Middle West projects are expected to be completed and hung first thing tomorrow morning. There will be a Middle West states and capitals test on Wednesday and a SW, SE, NE, and Middle West states and capitals test on Friday.
Don't forget to send back your child's report card after you've signed it!

This week starts Fourth Quarter already! Report cards will go out on Friday.
The coming week appears to be an ordinary one so far. We are aiming for Monday 30th to have the new Midwest projects completed and hanging in the hallway, just in time for Bishop Braxton's visit that day. Bonus points for anyone who gets it in early. The schedule for the state foods went out last week, so we will be starting that.
Fourth grade will be carrying the cross and candles for Stations of the Cross on Friday .
Enjoy this springtime weather!

Welcome to a new week and a new season (soon)! Tomorrow for St. Patrick's Day there will be the wearing of the green for all who are Irish at heart.
On Wednesday, fourth grade has the all-school Mass and all of our seven are participating in some way. If you have the chance to come, you are certainly welcome to pray with us.
Thursday is the Noon Luncheon, which means it is our Papa John's Pizza Day. Don't forget to order by Tuesday.
Early dismissal on Friday is at 11:00.
New projects for the Midwest states will be assigned this week, so be on the lookout for information about that.
Have a great week!

By now you have probably heard all about the fun at the Science Carnival last Thursday! This week will start with putting the finishing touches on the shoebox stations so we can hang them in the hall. They all look great and each one is special in its own way. We hope you have a chance to see all of them before Lent is over!
Either Tuesday or Wednesday we will be having a Social Studies test on the Northeast region. Included with that is all the states and capitals we've studied so far, the SW, SE, and the NE.
Friday is the last eighth grade Market Day. Tickets are $.25 each and will be on sale in the gym every morning this week. We will be going to Stations of the Cross on Friday.
Have a great week!

Monday starts our school's fundraiser "Pennies for Pasta." We will be collecting all loose change or any money you wish to donate for leukemia until March 20.
Don't forget early dismissal on Wednesday!
Science Carnival is Thursday afternoon. We will all get a chance to try some hands-on science activities, as well as vote on a favorite one. Be sure to ask your fourth grader which one they thought was the best!
Book Buddy book reports are due this Wednesday. Most of the books are already read. The artwork is being assembled at school, although the composition part could be done over the weekend. Any unfinished reading minutes for the Six Flags six hours of reading is due Monday morning. Be sure to sign off on the time that was read.
Friday, March 6, is the deadline for fourth grade shoebox stations. They will hang somewhere in the hall or on a bulletin board. They are an ever-present reminder to the students in all grades to pray and reflect during the season of Lent. Thank you for your help with this important project!

The Fourth Grade has had a lot of fun learning about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War. Last week we reenacted how the colonists showed their disapproval of taxation without representation, reflected on two sides of the Boston Massacre, and disguised ourselves as Mohawk Indians and threw bales of tea from The Beaver. Can the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere be far behind? Hmmm...
Friday's art class had feathers flying everywhere with the designing and making of Mardi Gras masks. They will have a chance to celebrate and wear them as we stage our own class Mardi Gras on Tuesday. Wednesday, of course, ushers in Ash Wednesday, and the merriment will be replaced with ashes at our morning Mass.
Young Author books should be finished by now, including pictures and assembly. Science Fair is the next big project, due March 4.
On Thursday Gr. 4 is having a guest speaker from the Farm Bureau. He will be discussing agriculture in the Midwest.
Grades 1-5 have Stations of the Cross at Church on Friday at 2:00. You are welcome to attend if you have the chance. We will be hanging our Shoebox Stations in the hallway as they are finished.
Have a great week!

At first glance, this week promises to be fairly normal and uninterrupted for a change! Topping our agenda is the due date for the Northeast Scavenger Hunt project, Tuesday 17. They will be hanging in the hallway outside our room, so take a look if you are in the building.
Pizza Day is this Thursday, Feb. 19. Money for lunch is due on Tuesday, so don't forget!
Young Author books need to be finished by Friday of this week. We have been working on the story part during class, but the book should be assembled at home. Every book must have a front cover, title page, and information about the author.
Some students have chosen to do a Science Fair project. A note was sent home with them last week .
Academic topics we hope to cover include The Liturgical Year for Religion, double digit multiplication, and the Revolutionary War.
Enjoy Presidents' Day!
